Kurhany Leśno
Kurhany Leśno submitted by SolarMegalith : Stele on the top of the largest round barrow, located in the Northern part of the cemetry (photo taken on August 2009). (Vote or comment on this photo)
Barrow Cemetery in Pomorskie. The archaeological reserve "Kamienne Kręgi" ("Stone Circles") includes in fact not stone circles, but a large group of round barrows and stone cists located near the Leśno Dolne lake.

The largest round barrow is located in the Northern part of the cemetery, near the footpath. On its top there is a fine stele, and inside the round barrow a female burial with rich gravegoods was found, and thanks to that it is called "Grób księżniczki" ("The Princess Grave") now.

The main part of the cemetery, located south of the The Princess Grave, consists of about 10 round barrows and more then 50 burials without round barrows. There are also some reconstructed stone cists. Some of the tombs date back to Bronze Age, others were constructed about 1st-2nd century AD and are connected with activity of Goths in this area, as well as cemeteries in Odry, Węsiory, Grzybnica and others.

There are some very rare types of lichen preserved within the area of the cemetery. The place is easily accessible and a path for visitors was made - if you visit Poland looking for archaeological sites, this one is essential.
