Promontory Fort / Cliff Castle in Wielkopolskie

Promontory of Bnińskie lake has been occupied since Iron Age, when people of Lusatian culture built their settlement here. In early medieval period (probably about 10th century AD) a Slavic fortified settlement was constructed here. The kite-shaped earthen ramparts survived in good condition, they enclose central part of the promontory. Northern part of the earthworks, originally separating the fort from the land, is particularly impressive. In 13th century a small motte was built on a promontory north from the early medieval settlement – it survived as a small mound.

The site is easy to reach – in Bnin you need to turn into Cmentarna street and follow the footpath around the cemetery, which will lead you to the promontory. The earthworks of the early medieval fort are perfectly visible.
