Stone Circle in Moravia
Probably the most famous megalithic monument of the Moravian region. Huge block of the hard sandstone which bottom part changes into mixture rock. The rock formation is positively of local origin. The stone was damaged in the past, its side part was used during the road construction.
This stone object is well known since early medieval times. The first record is from the 1228, when the stone was first named by the name Králův Stůl (simply The King's table) in the royal document. Other record from 1694 describes the object in detail and talks about enigmatic symbols on the surface.
The site was subject to archaeological survey for several times, first in 1903 and last in 1997. What is sure is that the stone was worked by the hand of the man in prehistoric times already but it is impossible to determine age or purpose with certainty. There are several local legends associated to the King's Table mostly about ancient kings' elections.
In the ground plan the stone was worked into the shape of the head of the sacred animal, the bull most likely. The stone was surrounded in past with a circle of smaller stones and gravel with rough stones oriented to the world's sides. It is assumed that most of the symbols comes from the 4th century BC.
