The best Preserved section of town walls, about 9 Meters long by 2.3 Meters tall is in the basement of an old lady's house at the. end of Kiklopska Ulica, or Cyklops street, on the left. A small tip is not unappreciated. Another less well preserved section is next to 5th Century Church, in an area that is designated as Archeological center. 43.18245 16.59848. Greeks from the Island of Pharos settled here in 385 BCE and built the massive town wall. Other sections are embedded in the tower of the St. Stephens church on Sv. Stjepana Trg. Pharos is the Greek form of the Croatian name Hvar. The city then became Stari Grad or old town when new Hvar was founded at a more accessible location.
