Barrow Cemetery in Wielkopolskie

One of the most famous barrow cemeteries in Poland. Four round barrows survived, although the 19th century sources say about 14 of them (in 1881 there were still 11 round barrows left). Some of them were destroyed during construction of the railway line.

The round barrows were built by the people of Unetice culture in Early Bronze Age (1700-1500 BC). The perimeter of the round barrows is 60 to 120m, and their height is 2.5-5 m. The grave-goods were very rich - during the excavations lead by professor Józef Kostrzewski gold jewellery, weapons, amber and bronze daggers were found.

The aerial photos made by the archaeologists directed by Marek Chłodnicki from Archaeological Museum in Poznań showed that the round barrows were built in two alignments.
