Vienna museums open adult-only social media account to display nudes by Andy B on Sunday, 17 October 2021

Tourist board in Austrian capital rails against censorship of art on social media platforms
Institutions have struggled to promote work by artists such as Egon Schiele online.

More than a century after the artists of the Vienna Secession declared “to every age its art; to art its freedom”, the Austrian capital has found a new site for artistic expression free from censorship: the adults-only platform OnlyFans.

Vienna’s tourism board has started an account on one of the few social networks that permit depictions of nudity in protest against platforms’ ongoing censorship of its art museums and galleries.

In July, the Albertina Museum’s new TikTok account was suspended and then blocked for showing works by the Japanese photographer Nobuyoshi Araki that showed an obscured female breast, forcing the museum to start a new account. This followed a similar incident in 2019, when Instagram ruled that a painting by Peter Paul Rubens violated the platform’s community standards which prohibit any depictions of nudity – even those that are “artistic or creative in nature”.

In 2018, the Natural History Museum’s photograph of the 25,000-year-old Venus of Willendorf figurine was deemed pornographic by Facebook and removed from the platform.

    Oh goodness, that's crackers.

Here's a bit more of the same. My favourite quote is in bold, below.

Modesty Mandatory For Michelangelo's David Statue In Dubai

"A 3D printed copy of Michelangelo’s iconic David sculpture is currently on display at the Dubai Expo — or some of it is anyway. Parts of the statue deemed inappropriate for public viewing have been concealed, much to the ire of Italy’s most outspoken art historian."

Michelangelo's David is a statue of limitations at Dubai's Expo

"At Italy’s Pavilion, a 3D replica of Michelangelo’s David looks tense, his marble dust eyes defiant and brows furrowed. For most visitors, his face is all that they will see.

The six-metre-tall reproduction of the Renaissance statue was unveiled at Expo 2020 Dubai, but its presentation has stirred debate about artistic expression and censorship.

Standing in the centre of a narrow octagonal structure, only David’s head and neck are visible to the public, while the rest of his body is reserved for VIPs with special access."

Male, female and sexless figures of the Hallstatt Culture: indicators of social order by Andy B on Tuesday, 03 May 2016
(User Info | Send a Message)
Human representations of the Hallstatt culture are striking in their diversity. Communities living in parts of eastern France, Switzerland, southern Ger-many, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria, Hun-gary, Slovenia, Croatia and northern Italy between c. 800 and 400 BC produced images in a wide range of sizes, materials and technologies, decorating artefacts such as the sheet bronze situlae or ornaments, and as representations in their own right, as figurines, stelae and rock art. the variability of human representations found in different contexts makes it hard to describe their common characteristics, and entices us to apply our own cul-tural norms and expectations to their interpretation.
