Aboriginal Rock Art in North Bondi, Australia

Large aboriginal rock art site with fishes, humans, whales and footprints.

Additional Information submitted by Drew Parsons in November 2014: These engravings have been re-grooved by the local council in 1964. This re-grooving was controversially undertaken to preserve the features of the carving as the rock here is quite soft and easily eroded and indeed at many local sites where re-grooving has not occurred the engravings have eroded away completely. In Aboriginal times many such sites were re-grooved as part of ethnic rituals. This makes dating difficult although it is thought that the Sydney area engravings were created within the last 5000 years. The location of this site is stunning, being set within a few metres of the vertical cliffs facing the Tasman Sea. To reach the site travel north from Bondi Beach along Military Road until you reach Blair Street. Buses run along this route and stop at Blair Street. Opposite Blair Street walk down the path towards the cliffs across the golf course to the ventilation tower and you will find the site a few metres to the south east of the tower.
