This site has an engraving of a turtle. Other engravings nearby were destroyed.
Additional Information submitted by Drew Parsons in November 2014: This engraving has been re-grooved by the local council. This re-grooving was controversially undertaken to preserve the features of the carving as the rock here is quite soft and easily eroded and indeed at many local sites where re-grooving has not occurred the engravings have eroded away completely. In Aboriginal times many such sites were re-grooved as part of ethnic rituals. This makes dating difficult although it is thought that the Sydney area engravings were created within the last 5000 years. This turtle engraving is thought to belong to a type of site named an Increasing Site where food sources were depicted in an attempt to influence food catching opportunities. To reach this site go north from Bondi Beach and turn into Ramsgate Avenue. Follow this road to the end where the Ray O'Keefe Reserve is found. Walk down the north side of the park to reach the steps down to the rocks (with Bondi Beach visible to your right) and the turtle engraving is located on a rock immediately at the top of the steps.
