Several rock art panels have been found in Lødingen kommune just the last years from 2020. They have all been found by local history enthusiasts and they are all of the grinded North Norway hunter-gatherer type of rock art believed to be from older stone age. The outline of a presumed bear figure is grinded into the rock. Fore and hind legs, belly line and back line are visible (personally I think it looks more like a elk figure).
This site was found by two members of a local history group.
The location is on the south side of Neshaugen with a very nice view over the ocen, 54 meters above sea level and 350 and 400 meters south of the grinded carvings on Nes fort East and West.
There may be parts of several animals on the rock face, especially in front of the front of the bear figure. The head is not definitely observed. The rock face, which is sloping, protrudes somewhat into the landscape, which is otherwise marked by rock crags. The figure is approximately 1 - 1.2 m long and 0.7 - 0.8 m high.
Finding the rock art was not easy, there are no hiking trails nearby and the hill and area around consists of huge rocky outcrops, large boulders and deep cracks and ravings between them that either have to be climbed over or walked around. The rock can also be very slippery when it is wet so people that want to visit the site needs to be careful.
