Chambered Cairn in Bohemia

The vast majority of well-preserved burial mounds in Bohemia region come from the bronze age or later. From this view is a discovery in the old royal town of Nymburk from 1994 absolutely unique. Remains of a cairn with the burial chamber made from massive stones and an internal wooden construction. Radiocarbon make possible to date the monument to the Eneolithic Funnel Beaker culture (3800 - 3400 BC). This monument was probably burial place of some local nobleman, unfortunately bones were found in disorder. This and the lack any equipment shows a fact that the cairn was robbed.

In 1996 the site became a National Culture Landmark. The museum building was open above the grave for the public in 2013 presenting uncovered barrow "in situ". I must say the town council did a good job and the museum structure fits sensitively to a ancient city centre.
