Skävesund Gravfält
Skävesund Gravfält submitted by cereus : Grave field at Skävesund, Närke. The name implies that the people who lived around here worshipped the goddess Skädja. A thousend years or so before the vikings. Skädja was a goddess of fertility and goodness. We don't know much about her. Only the place name tells us that she was worshipped here. Probably in conjunction with the god Ull. You can tell from some place names nearby. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Standing Stones and grave site

Additional information submitted by Drew Parsons in September 2011: Skävesund Gravfält set on the Glanshammar Ridge above the lovely Lake Hemfjärden is one of the largest burial sites in this province. There are around 150 graves dated between 500 BC and 1050 AD although none of the graves have yet been excavated. The graves are mostly stone settings or burial mounds. Some stone settings are round, but others are in the shape of ships, tridents, and arrangements of three standing stones. The location is beautiful and well worth a visit. Reference: Riksantikvarieämbetet Fornsök: Glanshammar3:1 The coordinates have been updated from a GPS reading at the site in September 2011 and the site name amended to Skävesund Gravfält so that the photos for the newly created and similarly named Skävesund Gravfältet Norr page are not captured in this site too.
