Cairn in Norway. This site on the east side of the small island called Hadseløya consists of several burials, but only some few of them are visible today.
Most of them have been excavated or destroyed by later activities. But some of them are visible today, including a star-shaped burial cairn.
The cairn is easy to find, it is located just about 10 metres to the east of the main road leading from north to south along the east side of the Island.
The very high grass in the field where the burials are located have been cut down exactly over the star-shaped cairn, making it easy to see. Each of the three "arms" have a length of about 8 metres with one pointing north, it has the shape of a "Y". It does not elevate mouch from the ground. It has a short and thick standing stone in the middle of the cairn. It is about 1.4 metres in height and about 50cm wide. It has a rounded shape. It is standing exactly in the center of the "star".
The field also contains one long barrow and two smaller burial mounds. They are heavily overgrown with tall grass and leaf trees. They are about 6-7 metres across.
Further down the hill toward the sea is two foundation marks from buildings from the iron age. They are believed to be of boat houses, because the distance to the sea and the sea level in the iron age have probably reached almost to the low end of the houses. They are about 10-15 metres in length and about 4-5 metres wide.
The site has a beautiful view over the sea and the surrounding mountains and mountains. To the south is a very nice view of the islands and mountains of Lofoten.
