The northernmost Kofun tumuli. More exactly, Satsumon people’s burial mounds influenced by the Kofun culture from Japanese main islands, like terminal Kofun in Tōhoku (north-eastern) region of Honshū island.
They are supposed to have built in 7th to 9th centuries CE (the true Kofun were built in 3rd to 6th centuries CE). 21 round or capsule-shaped mounds with circle or horseshoe-shaped moats were excavated (3 of them were destroyed later). The height of mounds is less than 1m so it is difficult to distinguish them in the riverside meadow.
