A part of one of the UNESCO World Heritage site of Hiraizumi, here we see the tall stone in the pond garden of Mōtsū-ji temple, which was slanted by the 2011 earthquake and then re-erected. This is outstanding but there are more modern stone settings on the shore and in the pond. The pond garden represents the Buddhist paradise.
The main feature of Hiraizumi site is Chūson-ji temple with the golden pavilion, but the Mōtsū-ji temple and its pond garden (above) are also well worth visiting
Open 8:30-17:00(-16:30 Nov.5-Mar.4) all year around, admission 700 Japanese Yen (2024 price).
