Chambered Cairn in Honshū

Groups of burial mounds on the riverside of Waga river(和賀川), 120-130 mounds divided into 4 sub-groups : Naganuma Kofungun (長沼古墳群), Gojōmaru Kofungun(五条丸古墳群), Nekoyachi Kofungun(猫野地古墳群), Hachiman Kofungun(八幡古墳群).

These mounds, mass of round ones with surrounding henges, are supposed to be the graves of native Ainu people of Hokkaidō and Tōhoku area in late Kofun era(7th century) to early historic era(10th century) , developed under a slight influences from Kofun culture of Honshū area which gradually spread northbound.
These northern pseudo-kofun are mostly earthen mounds, most of Ezuriko mounds are piles of stones which look like chambered cairns.
