An interesting and lesser known standing piece of quartzite in the bend of the road north from the village of Líšno, Bohemia. The stone is 120 cm tall and has a well visible carving of a cross on its eastern side. It could be a medieval cross stone but it could also be a prehistoric menhir.

Some sources talk about an ancient pagan sanctum in this place. According web records similar stones should be somewhere around but by the time I was there I was not aware of this, so I missed it. Perhaps next time.

It looks like a classic shadow stone to me, with it's smooth point. Do you know if there were/are any possible marker stones close by to mark the tip of the shadow at certain times of the year? Especially to the E or W to mark the equinox?

The true is that I found this stone totally accidentally and all the information I have collected after my visit. A few sources talk about other similar stones within distance of 20m approx but I did not see them so I cant help.
There is a theory about destroyed dolmen or more complex structure...though it still remains just a theory. Some sources classify this object as a medieval cross stone or propitiatory stones. But I have seen plenty of such objects in this region and this particular one seems to be quite different in my oppinion. I would say the stone is old and was christianized with the carving of the cross what is by the way quite usual.
