Sculptured Stone in Bohemia
Devil's Footprint is the name of the wood south from the Kolence village. The name comes from the large granite boulder which can be found just next to the forest road. An outline of the devil carrying a boulder and the numbers 1247 and 1896 are angraved in stone.
The stone is locally favourite and well known. There are several folks tale associated with. The most famous one talks about the bet between devil and the priest. The devil didn't succeed in bringing this boulder from Rome to nearby Novosedly village before the priest finnished a Mass. As a result of his lost, angry devil slung the stone on the ground and stamped on it with its hoofs.
Imprints of two hoofs can be also easily seen just below the picture of the devil. The date 1247 remains mystery, but 1896 was the year when ponds were regulated and in the same time the stone was cleaned of mosses and lichens.
Another interesting artificial stone formation can be found just a few steps from the boulder on the forest crossroad. Remains of the former monument to commemorate golden wedding of Duke Schwarzenberg and Princess Ida of Liechtenstein from 1908.
The fact is, that this structure seems more like true megalithic tomb these days. And it was also mistakenly regarded as an ancient monument in the book of one local amateur stone enthusiast...
