Ancient Village or Settlement in Sicily (Sicilia)
Ancient Greek settlement, probably founded in 6-7 Century BCE on a very grid-like plan (Like NYC) on a promontary plateau stretching out towards the sea. The inhabitants use the somewhat sheltered beach for their ships. There was a temple at the site of the modern museum, which also has many interesting artifacts.
The town was destroyed in the war of the Athenians against Syracuse around 400 BCE and was never rebuilt.
It is now located right next to a Club Med of the same name.
