This site is a mystery in itself! It consists of a huge natural boulder that is square-shaped with pointy edges and has a huge flat surface that makes it look like a natural table or an altar. The stone is about 1 metre in height and the sides are 1-2 metres wide.
In the stones west side has been carved a christian cross. (About 40 cm in height.) The cross has been painted in modern times, but the carving is believed to be from the middle ages, but why did they carve a cross in the stone?
We know that the stone was being removed in earlyer times when they buildt the church in Kabelvåg.
A theory is that this stone is from a ancient pagan sacrificial site, and the church was built upon a old pagan religious important centre. (Which has happened several times with church buildings in early middle ages), or some other site important in pagan religion, and that the cross was carved by the christians in the middle ages to make the site harmless for christians, or to mark the change between the old pagan religion to christianity.
