A "Rondel", a mainly earthen ditched enclosure from the neolithic period (estimated 4800-4500 BC) to the NE of Prague in the area of Vinoř village.
The intensive archeological survey is currently being in progress NE of the capital Prague in the area of Vinoř village. Large circular object was discovered even in early 80th. Despite minor former attempts the real exploration could only begin in these days when the location was finaly designated for the new houses construction.
The survey is carried out by the Archeology Institute of Czech republic. Coverage of field-works itself is quite exceptional within local scales. Archeologists estimate to reveal almost 90% of the site.
So called "Rondels" are mainly earthen ditched enclosures from the neolithic period (estimated 4800-4500 BC) occured mostly in region of Central and Northen Europe. This particular one had 55m in diameter and three entrances what is not usual. Archeologist were also suprised and pleased with the well-preserved traces after embeddings of wooden palisade .
Signs of neolithic village was also discovered north of the object. Is estimated that this prehistoric settlement was permanently occupied 300-400 years.
