Järrestad submitted by DrewParsons : Site in Skåne: One of the many pairs of feet carved here. I have seen similar sets of feet on Norwegian sites - there they have been sometimes explained as representative of deities who would be too sacred to show in person in a depiction, so just their footprints are carved. Other explanations may be possible.

This called The Dancer’s Slab with over 550 figures and 700 bowl hollows. It is thus Skåne’s most figurative rock carving. The most famous element is the large figure commonly referred to as the Dancer.
In addition to the unique Dancer there are more than 200 footprints chiseled into the stone. These are interpreted as the footprint of the gods, as well as ships, riders standing on horseback, snakes, crucifixes, spirals, axes and bowl hollows.
My additional interpretation: when I was a child, frequently put my hand or foot on a paper and simply ✍️ draw it around. And that’s all. No ships, no riders standing on a horseback, no snakes. They were just having some fun carving their footprint on a sunny afternoon after having lunch…
