Cave or Rock Shelter in Bohemia

Czech Karst is a romantic and wild area roughly 130 square km south west of Prague. Mainly limestone rocks are rugged with deep gorges, canyons and karst caves. Despite the fact that caves in the Czech Karst are primarily smaller in size, it is the one of the most important region of speleo-archaeological interest in the Czech Republic. There is around 80 registered archaeological localities from practically all periods of the prehistoric and historic eras.

"Děravá (translates as Gappy) cave" is found in the western part of the karst massif Golden Horse. Just above the cave used to stay Bronze Age hillfort Kotiz. The small rock shelter has 7x3 m size and is up to 2 m in height. Amongst rich archaeological findings belongs flint stones, man-worked animals bones and the most significant artefact - shale tablet with carving of an ibex from Magdalenian period (12 000 BC). From the cave is a really magnificent view!
