Hillfort in Croatia

Bronze Age Hillfort abandoned around Iron age. Semicircular in shape at the edge of a steep cliff at 330 Meter altitude. Kunci has a very thick inner wall, made out of now loose irregular stones with two zig-zag entrances. There is also a smaller outer wall. An other entrance was cut in recent times and local youths use the inside perimeter for drag racing with old Serbian built Fiats. The Croat archeologist Boris bacic researched the entrances in the 60's, but the rest has not been formally explored. 100 meters in diameter. There originally was also a tumulus, which is now lost. Partisans also built shelters in the wall during WWII. This area marks the beginning of the territory of the Liburni tribe of the Illyrians, who were semi-matriarch cal and had only female goddesses.

The hillfort consists of an approximately 2 Meter thick wall of loose stone in a 200 Meter diameter semi-circular shape in front of a sheer cliff. Main gate seen from above with good stretch of wall in the rear. The maquis permeates the landscape, but frequent foot travel would have kept the gate clear. (Vote or comment on this photo)
