Sakitama Kofungun submitted by Aska : Maruhakayama Kofun with cherry trees in full bloom. Site in Honshū Japan (Vote or comment on this photo)
Barrow Cemetery in Honshū. More than 40 tumuli are supposed to have lain around this area, now only 10 (1 round and 9 keyholes shaped) of them are repaired and preserved in a historical park "Sakitama Kofun Kōen (さきたま古墳公園)" along with museums.

The sole 1 round tumulus Maruhakayama Kofun (丸墓山古墳) is the largest one (105m diameter) in Japan. Among the 9 keyhole-shaped tumuli, Futagoyama Kofun (二子山古墳) is the largest (138m), the armours for man & horse and a sward with golden inlay were excavated from Shōgun'yama Kofun (将軍山古墳, 90m) and Inariyama Kofun (稲荷山古墳, 120m) respectively.

"Sakitama" is the archaic name for Saitama Prefecture.

Saitama Prefectural Official Site in English Note the location on the map on the official page is wrong, it is 2.5km away from the tumuli park. The location on our page is correct.
