Rock Cut Tomb in Honshū
Most famous rock cut tombs in Japan, with 219 holes. Luminous Moss (Schistostega pennata) lights up some holes. An underground munitions factory was dug at this site during the World War II, and the imitation holes of the later era were also dug around here.
Open 8:30-17:00. Admission 300 Japanese Yen. A museum and a kiosk near by.
The pioneer of Japanese archaeology Shōgorō TSUBOI insisted stupidly that these holes were the dens of dwarfs.
