Modern Stone Circle / Monolith in Honshū
Sekidōsan temple complex ruin, situated in a mountainside between Ishikawa and Toyama prefectures, was first built as a Shinto shrine then became a Buddhist monastery complex (Shinto and Buddhism were friendly fused in medieval Japan). It suffered fire persecutiosn twice and was completely demolished by anti-Buddhism campaign after Meiji Restoration. Now only the ruins of dry landscape gardens of some sub-temples, including Tōrin-in (東林院), remain.
