Stone Circle in Honshū This Shintō shrine is supposed to be the origin of great Taga Taisha shrine which now lies 3km away southwards. In the precinct there is a stone circle which might have been built as ‘iwasaka’ the boundary of sacred area, and there is also a huge standing (natural?) stone in the wood behind the shrine which might be worshipped as ‘iwakura’ the possession object for deity. The combination of both ‘iwasaka’ and ‘iwakura’ in the same precinct of a shrine is a rare example.
