Sculptured Stone in Honshū

A Chinese Zen sect temple in the southern outskirts of Kyōto. On the hill behind the temple, eccentric statues of 500 Arhats are placed. Jakuchū ITŌ (伊藤若冲 1716-1800) who is one of 3 Japanese extravagant painters designed them. His tomb is also placed in the temple. Photo-taking of the statues is prohibited.
Admission 300 Japanese Yen.
