Modern Stone Circle / Monolith in Honshū

A cable railway leads to this shrine on the top of Otokoyama (男山) hill. It has a dry landscape garden designed by a modern gadener Mirei Shigemori. The shrine office, which contains the garden, is not open to public but the garden can be seen from its own gate.
The Otokoyama hill could be seen from the Ryōan-ji temple, famous for its own dry landscape garden, in those days.
The bamboos (charcoaled) around the shrine were used for the first Edison electric light bulbs, a monument about the fact stands in the shrine.
