Most well-known and most hard-to-enter temple among UNESCO World Heritages in Kyoto. The famous garden was designed by Musō Soseki (夢窓疎石), the priest who also designed the garden of Tenryū-ji temple, it had been gradually covered with moss in the late 19th century. The garden consist of 2 parts : lower part including 2 ponds with islands ; upper part with some stone settings.

Yōgō-ishi (影向石) : a black stone with a straw necklace. The stone settings around this stone express the origin of a stream which leads to the pond. A stone circle lies closely. 34.99196,135.68416
Shumisen-ishigumi (須弥山石組) : Shmisen (Mt. Sumeru) is a mountain which stands in the centre of the world in the Buddhist thoughts. Usually this setting is constructed with tall rocks in other dry landscape gardens, the one of this temple seems like tortoise stone settings which are often placed in the dry landscape gardens along with crane stone settings, which are the symbol of eternity because crane was believed to live 1,000 years and tortoise to live 10,000 years. On the slope to the upper part. 34.99268,135.68367
Karetaki-ishigumi (枯滝石組) : Kare-taki means 'dried-up-cascade', a waterfall represented by tall rocks. The karetaki stone setting here also represent the flow of the following stream and an upstreaming carp which is a symbol of training priest. Upper part. 34.99298,135.68370
Zazen-seki (座禅石) : Zazen is sitting meditation quest for zen's profound thought. These stones represent the stools for this purpose. Upper part. 34.99279,135.68336
