Modern Stone Circle / Monolith in Honshū

Kōbe port town has a rather narrow belt shape sandwiched by the sea and Mt.Rokkō, but whole Kobe city expands behind the Mt.Rokkō. The area is almost developed into a residential town but some old small quiet temples lie there. An'yō-in, a sub temple of nearby Taisan-ji (太山寺) temple, is one of them. The tiny garden fulfilled with rocks and stones, which have their own meanings and symbols, is like a stone-made cosmos.

Only open to public end of April to beginning of May, and mid November. Taisan-ji's other sub temples, Jōju-in (成就院) and Kanki-in (歓喜院), have more simple dry landscape gardens. Reservation required to visit.
