Modern Stone Circle / Monolith in Honshū

"Jingū-ji" is a common noun for a Buddhist temple (ji) built in a precinct of a Shinto shrine (jingu) during the long (1000 years) syncretism of Japan. Most of them were destroyed by the over interpretation of Shinto-Buddhism Separation Order after the Meiji Restoration in 1868. This temple may be the only survivor of Jingū-ji built on a satellite island, where religious islanders live, in the hidden side of Awaji-shima (淡路島) island.

The dry landscape garden of Jingū-ji is very unique, it utilizes the greenschist which is very common on Awaji-shima and Shikoku islands, it almost seems like a iceberg crashed by a icebreaker.
