Barrow Cemetery in Kyūshū

One of the greatest tumuli groups in Japan, more than 300 tumuli. Most of the tumuli are small round shape, 30 greater ones are prolonged-keyhole shapes like spoons. 1 square shaped, 1 scallop (shortened-keyhole) shaped tumuli, some rock-cut tombs and underground burial cellars which are peculiar to Miyazaki Prefecture have been found in this area.
Well-maintenanced as an archaeological park, on a vast plateau just 1 mile away from the city centre of Saito city, car parking spacea are well-provided. An admission-free archaeological museum near by : open 10:00-18:00 ; closed on mondays, the days after the national holidays and the days around the new years day.
