A Shinto shrine on the top of a mountain in the north of Iki island. In tribute to the enshrined diety ‘sarutahiko’ (saru=monkey) who guided the Creators of Japanese archipelago, so many modern stone statuettes of monkey, including famous “three wise monkeys (also appeared in 'Planet of the Apes' movie)”, are placed.
Along with the matching shrine “Medake Jinja” (o-dake=male mountain, me-dake=female mountain), their deity rocks are believed to possess super power to make the compass-heading out of order.
