Standing Stone (Menhir) in Bohemia

So called "Hliniční hill" (Hliniční vrch) is a rather indistinctive forested peak north of the Blatná town - South Bohemia. The area has some ancient history. Several prehistoric Slavic mounds were discovered roughly around the top. Anyway these mounds are hardly to be recognized in terrain today.

Just a few steps from the top of the Hliniční and also from the burial site stands a lone stone. Menhir of Hliniční Hill can be quite a challenge to locate. It is standing in dense vegetation apart from any trail. But a short visit is definitely worth it.

The stone is up to 140cm high block of granite. It looks cracked in the middle. An interesting rectangular depression can be seen on its western side. Like an eye staring in the direction of mounds.

Menhir on Hliniční is almost unknown to public. In fact it seems to be somehow "overshadowed" a bit by its famous colleague. Popular Dwarf of Dobšice (for the details see the topic) can be found just about 500m north. Dwarf seems to like people and so he took his place by the main tourist path.
