Waschstein Stubbenkammer
Waschstein Stubbenkammer submitted by fornjotr : The "Waschstein" in the Jasmund National Park (Vote or comment on this photo)
The "Waschstein" is a glacial erratic on the island of Rügen (Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania). It lies underneath the "Königsstuhl" a famous chalk cliff in the Jasmund National Park.

The erratic has a size of 22m³, a weight of around 60 tons, a length of meters and a height of 3 meters. It consists of precambrian Svaneke-granite and seems to have it's origin in Bornholm (Denmark).
Like other glacial erratics on the coast of Rügen, the Waschstein came with glaciers from scandinavia to Rügen during the last ice age in pleistocene.

The Waschstein is the setting of some folk tales. One of the folk tales says that every seven years a (mer)maid can be seen on the stone washing herself (or her clothes) in the sunlight.
Another (more popular) folktale can be found here in german language:
Die Jungfrau am Waschstein bei Stubbenkammer

The surrounding is nice but usually you will find a lot of tourists there.
