Hillfort in Croatia

Bronze age Hillfort occupied ca 1800-1200 BCE. 78 Meters altitude. 4Km East of Rovnij. One outer wall with e zig-zag entrances, one inner wall for so called Acropolis with modest palace. Traces of having been abandoned suddenly during invasion of Istri tribe of Illyrians. Normal habitations between walls. 30 Meter deep Vertical cave located just outside northwest entrance. Thought to have ritualistic purpose. Not fully excavated yet but thought to have passage leading back to fort and to have high potential on account of finds made at similar cave in Slovenia.

Monkodonja
Monkodonja submitted by AlexHunger : Bronze Age Hillfort. This area has been dubbed the Chieftain's Palace, as it had a bigger hearth. There were also 3 skulls left there, indicating some sort of ritual practices in the building. It also appears to have been left hastily, probably when the more advanced and by then Iron Aged Istrian Illyrians invaded. (Vote or comment on this photo)

Monkodonja submitted by AlexHunger : Monkodonja Cave Just outside of the northern secondary entrance to the Bronze Age Monkodonja Hillfort, ther is this deep vertical cave. Archelogists dug out about 15 cubic meters of material to a depth of 50 meters and found the beginnings of a passage towards the center of the Hillfort. It is thought that ceremonies might have taken place in this "underworld." A similar cave in neighbou...
