God's Stone Soseň submitted by ladrin : Unusual surface weathering. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Natural Stone / Erratic / Other Natural Feature in Bohemia

Regionally well known and favourite large solitary boulder can be found less then one km south of the small settlement Soseň. It is located in the pine tree forest just a few steps from the quarry pond.

I have already seen several of such monuments and they are very often somehow associated with even good or bad high powers or directly worshiped. Good examples of these are topics "St. Vojtech stone Nebílovský Borek" or "St. Vojtech stone Vrčeň".

In case of God's stone of Soseň the nature created truly unusual work. Large piece of local granite with intensive surface weathering. Distinctive wavy shapes and about 10 large depressions simply attract attention.

The most famous old folks tales talk about Jesus Christ and his disciples resting on this stone. But there is also another one pretty new and interesting modern urban legend.

The "stone collector" from nearby Rakovnik town realized God's stone transportation to a new owner in mid 90th. A few days later was accidentally killed in a car accident. Shortly after this event the stone was returned, altough not exactely to its origing position. Due to problems with heavy machinery it was left about 20 metres aside.

After this event it became Protected monument to prevent another transportation attempts..
