Västergötlands museum
Västergötlands museum submitted by CharcoalBurner89 : The 3,000 year old bronze shields from Fröslunda, which were given to the bog as an offering. August 25, 2023 (Vote or comment on this photo)
Västergötland Museum was founded in 1919 by the Västergötland Antiquities Association to house their collections. A highlight is the ~3,000-year-old bronze shields from Fröslunda, which were thrown into a bog as an offering, and other objects from this period.

In addition an open-air museum (Fornbyn Open Air Museum) was also created. In 1977 the museum was handed over to a foundation formed by the Antiquities Association, the Provincial Parliament of Skaraborg County and the municipality of Skara. The museum was renamed Skaraborgs länsmuseum. In 1994 the museum was expanded to create space for further exhibitions. After the province of Skaraborg was merged into the newly formed province of Västra Götaland County in 1998, the museum reverted to its original name.

The museum has three basic exhibitions:
- an exhibition on the approximately 3,000-year-old bronze shields from Fröslunda, which includes not only the shields but also other objects from this period and a picture game
- an exhibition on the city of Skara in the Middle Ages (around 1000 to 1350);
- an exhibition on the artist Agnes de Frumerie, who was born in Skövde in 1869.

In addition, there are regular temporary special exhibitions.

I am very proud that I can show you 10 out of the 14 Bronze Age shields (Fröslundasköldarna) from Fröslunda. Unfortunately, the other four were not in the exhibition. But I'm happy to be able to show each one here in detail, although the degree of preservation of the shields differs significantly.
