Ancient Village or Settlement in Bohemia

Height settlement of a mysterious Cham Culture (according german Chamer Kultur) is found on the top of the forested but massive silicite rock outcrop locally known simply as a Velká Skála - The Big Rock.

Cham culture belongs to central european Middle Eneolithic (mainly Bavaria and western Bohemia) and is dated to 3200 – 2800 BC. Because of absolute lack of any graves from this period, a cremation rite is assumed. Particulary in Czech region Cham Culture settlements are found only on the top of the rocks or mesas what is really extraordinery phenomena.

The rock outcrop near Bzí was archaeologically excavated already at the end of 19th century. Exceptionally rich findings are now placed in the West-Bohemia museum in Pilsen and include stone tools, flint stones and a lot of pottery.
