Standing Stone (Menhir) in Bohemia

Beautiful mountains of Šumava (AKA Bohemian Forest) is a vast piece of protected unspoilt wild in the southern part of Bohemia. This deep and impenetrable forest were well known even to the Roman forces as a land "Gabreta" - inhabited by the mighty celtic tribe of "Boii" ("Bójové" in Czech). BTW according "Boii" got all the country its name Boiohaemum - Bohemia. Celts obviously loved the deep forest of Šumava and so they built up several remarkable hillforts on its summits.

In the deep heart of the National Park, washed by a water of the Modrava stream stands one of the biggest standing stones of Bohemia. Concerning local condition, Modrava menhir is a truly giant. Huge and thick slab of a trapezoid shape about 2,5 m in height. Some people say that the stone has strong energy and an "eye".

The stone can be quite easily located, but I found it even on my second try. It stands not far away from one of the main tourist trail partly on the partly on the shore but with its base mostly straight in the stream. Despite some comments that the stone is very popular I enjoyed the privilege of being here only alone.
