Holy Well or Sacred Spring in Bohemia

The place of great spirit hidden in the deep forest of beautiful Šumava mountain. Despite the lucky fact that this ancient sacred place was recently sensitively rebuilt or better to say revived... it also reminds dramatic times of 20th century.

One of the local folk tale associated to this place talks about two women attacked by a bear in the wood. They started to pray to Virgin Mary and the bear turned away and left. The true is, that the place attracted people since ever. Water from the well was said to have miraculous healing effects. And so the small chapel was buitl here in 1820. And then the bigger one. The place has become very popular. Until the years after WWII when local German speaking people had to leave Šumava.

Communists closed the place for public enclosed it by the fence. And when it was not enough and people were still coming, the chapels simply demolished..

Today the well has appearance of natural Rosary and use of natural materials bring a message about necessity for a more sensitive approach..
