Gnomes Rocks
Gnomes Rocks submitted by ladrin : Round shape hollows and caves. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Cave or Rock Shelter in Bohemia

An unique geological location. Set of pseudo-karst hollows and caves situated high above the river Ohře, on the steep slope of the Schwedelberg hill. There are several theories how it could emerge, but the rock still remains a bit mysterious. About 60 caverns, all of almost precise round shape, from a few cm to 1,5m in diameter and up to 5m in depth.

It is clear that these caves were too small to accommodate people at anytime. But the place attracted attention since medieval times and through local folklore was always related with cute rumours and tales about dwarves. And so it is today, as can be confirmed from many tourist gifts left there. Gnomes Rocks is natural protected reservation since 1979.
