Mt. Noma-dake
Mt. Noma-dake submitted by Aska : Site in Kyūshū Japan "The landing point of the god" (Vote or comment on this photo)
Natural Stone / Erratic / Other Natural Feature in Kyūshū

A definitive site which exposes the immaturity and unscientificity of Japanese archaeology before the World War 2.
On the way to Mt.Noma-dake (591m alt.) from Miya-no-Mae (= In-front-of-Palace (or -Shrine)) starting point, numerous outcrops are exposed by the side of climbing path. Dr. Ryūzo TORII, who visited here in 1930, determined that this was a residential site, including both dolmens and chambered cairns, of ancient people. The local legend, which tells that this site was also the first landing point of the god, the ancestor of Japanese emperors, who was sent from celestial world to govern the world on the ground (among the other candidate places, Mt.Takachiho (高千穂峰 1574m alt. on the boundary between Kagoshima and Miyazaki prefectures) is most popular), also backed up his absurd theory. Well-signposted, well-paved but completely-fake.

8km away south-eastward, there is a small fisherman’s village called “Akime” (秋目), Sean Connery and Mie HAMA resided here as a disguised couple to investigate the secret base of Spectre in “You only live twice (1967)”. There is a tablet which contains the inscription of the autographs of Connery, producer A.R.Broccoli and Tetsurō TAMBA (as Tiger TANAKA). Akime port is also the first landing point of the Chinese Buddhist priest Jianzhen (688-763) who was invited to Japan to teach the formal Buddhist ordination procedure.
