Ancient Village in Flores, Indonesia

Bena traditional village is located 16 kilometres south of Bajawa in central Flores, Indonesia. The village has megalithic arrangements of unknown age which are part of the cultural beliefs of the Ngada inhabitants. These megaliths are areas where disputes between tribal members were traditionally settled and are known as lenggi. There is a lenggi for each clan in the village The miniature thatched huts represent the female ancestor of a of a clan and are called bhaga. The umbrella shaped thatched-top poles represent the male ancestor of a clan and are called Ngadhu. It is possible to hire a car in Bajawa for the forty minute drive to the village.
