Rock Art in Västergötland

The rock art here comprises a series of individual and paired feet plus some cup marks carved into the flat bedrock right by the side of the road. So many foot marks and in pairs is unusual. The site sign, the village website and the Riksantikvarieämbetet Fornsök all disagree on the number of carvings but all put them at over 100. The carvings are dated to the Bronze Age around 3000 years ago and are painted red to identify them both so people can see them readily and also to avoid folk accidentally walking on them. There is no evidence that they were ever painted in the Bronze Age. To reach the site travel north on the E20 from Vårgårda and just past Södra Härene turn left (west) towards Fåglum and the site is on the right (north) side of the road 1.5 kilometres before the village of Fåglum. There is a small area to park opposite the site where a site sign is. Reference: Riksantikvarieämbetet Fornsök: 5:1
