The visible remains on Brattabjär (Steep Hill) are almost 4000 years old. Oldest are the nine cairns from the Bronze Age, gathered in three imposing groups around the nature trail of Hallandsleden. During the Bronze Age the graves were placed on high ground to make sure they could be seen from far away. Each cairn was built for one person, but most of them were re-used for generations after.

Nearby are four standing stones from the Iron Age. Many of these have been re-used by local farmers. A century ago there were 50 standing stones present.

Brattabjär (Steep Hill) is descriptive name. So it is a steep, but fairly short climb to the top. The route to the site starts just south-east of Hjälm and is indicated with a blue P-sign (a small parking space) and a tiny wooden sign (500 meter Gravrösen) pointing the way from the road Rossaredsvägen, between Hjälm and Rossared (57.490553 and 12.177143).

Follow the Hallandsleden path (orange marks on trees) to the site. Halfway there, just before the crest, you will pass a gigantic rock (indeed a megalith!) on your left. After this you can follow two faint paths; either walk straight ahead and turn left or turn left and later right. The cairns are easily spotted in a light clearing in the woods.

Brattabjär
Brattabjär submitted by Bjorn : Megalithic indeed! You should pass this gigantic rock halfway to the cairns. The trees fell during a storm called Per, I believe, on 14 January 2007.
