Round Barrow in Frederiksborg

It was probably originally a Bronze Age Mound from the Early Bronze Age, about 2000-1000 BC The mound was excavated by Pastor KE Møhl in the late 1830s, when only a few stone tools were found. This could indicate the mound had been looted.

Pastor Møhl rebuilt the mound to a romantic garden construction with paths, lookout points and three runic stones, he had them producde and carved with inscriptions. This perhaps serves as a memory of his first wife, who died on the journey home from Tranquebar.

The text on the stones are apparently "translated" into Old Norse and written with a mixture of old and new runic alphabet - Futhark. The text on one of the stone has no meaning. The text on the second stone says: "Do not cry, only remember" and the text on the third reads something like: "Man's pose little additional soil."

On a smaller stone is in Latin letters written: "Good Luck to the North. God bless Denmark."
