Festningsåsen together with the much smaller hillfort called Bæljeråsen are two hillforts on two rocky hilltops very close to one another only separated by a narrow small gully are some of the better preserved and more interesting hillforts I have visited. I will treat Bæljeråsen it a different site since they are obviously two different structures however they could have existed both at the same time period.
Festningsåsen is a WNW to ESE elongated hill with steep sides to the north and north west. This side doesn't have any visible walls, the wall is located on the south-east and south side of the hill running along the edge of a hill to the south east. At the end of the hill the wall turns north-east at an angle in an L-shape and in the south east there is a opening in the wall with a possible entrance.
The wall can be followed in its entire length and is easily visible. It is around 1,70 metres wide and around 1 metre in height and at some places seems almost intact. It has only damages at some small parts. The vegetation consists of large fir trees and the ground is only covered in moss and very short grass making the wall even easier to follow.
Close examination of the hillforts have not been done but they are both dated to around 400-500AD. There are information posters at the main road and a market footpath to both hillforts.
