The graves were originally covered by a mound. The entrance was sealed by a large stone to protect against the spirits of the dead. Excavated finds bear witness to barbaric rituals having taken place around the grave with sacrificial animals and human beings
Graves of this kind are often erected on high ground in order to be visible - a signal to strangers of territorial rights.
From the village of Hjälm drive south-west on Hjälmbergsvägen, then cross over Gåsevadholmsvägen to Svensavägen. Follow the sign Gånggrifter to the site. A small parking space is provided for visitors just 25 metres from the grave.
